Scientific Advisory Board
We are proud to introduce the members of our scientific advisory board: Prof. Dr. Gerd Folkers, Prof. Dr. Marcel Hibert, Prof. Dr. Hugo Kubinyi, Prof. DDr. Klaus Liedl and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Sippl.
Prof. Dr. Gerd Folkers
Dr. Gerd Folkers is full professor for pharmaceutical chemistry at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich (ETH), Switzerland. After he finished his pharmacy studies at Bonn University (1978) he obtained a Ph.D. in 1980. In 1989 he was nominated as Dozent and since 1991 he is full professor at the ETH Zurich. He was guest professor at the University of Napoli (Italy) and at the SISSA in Triest (Italy). Prof. Folkers is member of the scientific advisory board of several companies. His research interests are focused on computer-aided modeling and prediction of molecular interactions, on spectroscopical, biophysical, immunological and molecular biological methods for the testing modeling studies, and on quantum chemistry techniques in drug design.
Prof. Dr. Marcel Hibert
Dr. Marcel Hibert is full professor for organic chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg (France). After his Ph.D. (1981) in organic chemistry he started to work in the Marion Merrell Dow Research Center, Strasbourg. In 1992 he was nominated as head of the department "Receptor Chemistry and Molecular Modeling". In 1996 he was promoted "Director of Chemistry and Structural Biology" and became member of the board of directors. Since 1997 he is professor at the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg. His main interests are focused on organic chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, molecular modeling, drug design, and research management.
Prof. Dr. Hugo Kubinyi
Dr. Hugo Kubinyi was head of the department of drug design, molecular modelling and protein crystallography in the Life Sciences Research Center (Hauptlaboratorium) of BASF AG, Ludwigshafen. He retired in June 2001. Since 1998 he was also responsible for the Combinatorial Chemistry activities of BASF AG. After his Ph.D. thesis at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Munich, and a Postdoc position at the Biochemical Institute of the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, he joined the Research Department of the pharmaceutical company KNOLL AG, Ludwigshafen, in 1966. In 1985 he moved to BASF AG. After his habilitation in 1978 he was nominated in 1986 as professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Heidelberg. From 1993-2000 he was Deputy Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of GMD, the German National Center of Information Technology, and from 1995-2000 he was Chair of the QSAR and Modelling Society (740 members, worldwide).
His fields of research are structure-activity relationships, molecular modelling, and rational drug design.
Prof. DDr. Klaus Liedl
Prof. DDr. Klaus R. Liedl is head of a research group at the Center of Molecular
Biosciences at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of
Innsbruck. After he finished his chemistry and mathematics studies
(Innsbruck 1989, 1992), he studied theoretical physics and obtained a Ph.D.
in chemistry (1995). Since 1998 he is tenured associate professor for
theoretical chemistry. In 1998 he obtained the Novartis research award, in
2002 the Hellmann award of AG Theoretical Chemistry (German Bunsen Society,
DPG, GDCh). In 2000 he became member of Scientia Europaea (French academy of
sciences, Aventis). He was head of the Institute of General, Inorganic and
Theoretical Chemistry in 2003 and 2004. 2006 he finished his doctorate in
juridical science focusing on intellectual property rights complementing his
chemical research as proven by his more than 100 publications in the field.
His main research interests are focused on drug development, the
understanding and prediction of kinetics and thermodynamics in the
course of biomolecular binding processes and reactions.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Sippl
Dr. Wolfgang Sippl is full professor for pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry at the Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. After he finished his pharmacy studies at the Free University of Berlin (1993) he obtained a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry (1997) at University of Düsseldorf. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Université Louis-Pasteur in Strasbourg, where he worked with Camille G. Wermuth, then took a senior researcher position in Düsseldorf before moving to the University of Halle-Wittenberg as a full professor in 2003. His main interests are focussed on medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry an drug design.
